Just 1

Just 1

A morning walk in the woods. Strolling about, sipping a hot beverage from this nifty travel* mug. Turning seeds of ideas around in my mind. Wondering which will grow and in what beautiful and surprising ways.

*Since no one is traveling much at the moment, the journey goes inward. Time of reflection.

The Burgess family had a seed of an idea about one year ago. On January 1, 2020, Phil and Sarah and their two spritely children picked up a bag of litter while walking on their local beach. They wondered, could one action set in motion a global effort to clean up our planet? The idea could have been total rubbish (ha). And yet, under 12 months and more than 20,000 bags and thousands of contributors later, I’d say it took root.

My uncle (nicknamed “UncFrog”) was inspired to join this movement after seeing my post on Instagram (turns out that posting unique items of litter is a way to stand out among a sea of sunsets and cheese platters). He did more than just collect that bag. He became a bit of a legend in the trash-picking community, and even challenged our humble little family to set our own goals (#GalenLitterGoals). This litter of Galens (/Evans) has now picked more than 1,000 bags as a result.

What seeds of ideas are germinating in your mind today? What possibilities are seeking purchase on the terrain of your thoughts? Which of these thousands and thousands of daily sparks in your mind become actions, perhaps movements of change?

It only takes one.
